Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic strives to provide the
best possible eye care to patients of all ages through a multi-specialty
team approach. In addition to our five physicians, the GTOC
staff includes 25 skilled assistants, technicians, receptionists,
and schedulers serving your needs. We are all committed to making
your experience with GTOC as pleasant and professional as possible.
Ophthalmologist (eye M.D.) = Diagnoses and
treats diseases of the eye, and performs eye surgery. Schooling
includes a minimum of twelve years of combined college, medical
school, and residency training, often followed by a fellowship
of specialized training.
Optometrist (O.D.) = Performs eye examinations
and treats eye problems by prescribing corrective lenses, vision
therapy, or other optical aids. Schooling includes four-year
undergraduate degree, usually with an emphasis on science and
mathematics, followed by four years of optometric training.
Orthoptist = Evaluates and treats eye muscle
disorders. Schooling includes four years of undergraduate study
and two years of specialized study.
Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician = Works under
the supervision and direction of an ophthalmologist to perform
ophthalmic clinical duties. Schooling ranges from six months
to two years, depending on the degree of specialty. |
