Conductive Keratoplasty
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is the first non-laser, surgical procedure designed to reduce the dependency of corrective eyewear for patients with hyperopia (farsightedness). CK candidates typically are forty-five (45) years of age or older, have good distance vision, and need reading glasses for daily activities. Free screening appointments are available daily to determine if you can experience improved vision with CK.
During your pre-surgical consultation, the patient will have a detailed ocular examination with pupillary dilation with our surgeon, Dr. von Kulajta, and our optometric team. Dr. von Kulajta performs CK surgery in our facility on a flexible, outpatient basis under local “eye-drop” anesthesia using spots of radio frequency (RF) to reshape the cornea. While recovery time varies for each patient, most patients are functional the day after surgery.
Dr. von Kulajta obtained her specialized training in corneal disease and refractive surgery at Johns Hopkins University after completing her ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University. (See complete biographies in our Physician section).
