Comprehensive Eye Examinations

GTOC recommends regularly scheduled eye examinations for all individuals for prevention and early detection of vision problems. The frequency of these examinations is determined by factors such as age, diabetes, or family history of eye disease, among others. GTOC uses the most modern testing methods and equipment available. We are also committed to educating our patients about their eye health, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

A thorough examination lasts about an hour and involves taking a medical and vision history, testing for visual acuity (spatial detail) and binocular vision, measuring intraocular pressure, field of vision, and refraction (checking for glasses need), as well as checking both the exterior and interior (optic nerve, retina) of the eye with special equipment. All of the tests are painless and non-invasive.

If the doctor detects any new or altered vision problems, you will be advised of treatment options, which may include corrective lenses.

Your eyes will be dilated for the check-up, and you may be unable to perform tasks at close range for a few hours afterward. Since dilation also causes sensitivity to light, you may want to bring sunglasses with you to your exam.
